Trumpet Lessons
Frequently Asked Questions
-
I prioritize making online trumpet lessons available for students worldwide, using high-fidelity audio setups, so it feels like we are in the same room. For local students in the Honolulu and Pearl Harbor, HI area, limited in-person lessons or masterclasses can be arranged depending on my availability.

I work with dedicated trumpet players of various levels, from ambitious high school students and college music majors to comeback adults. My goal is to help you build highly efficient brass mechanics, expand your range, and develop a musical voice, whether you are preparing for a placement audition or just want to play with more ease and confidence.
-
Absolutely! As an active-duty professional musician currently serving with the U.S. Pacific Fleet Band, I know exactly what audition panels are listening for. We will cover not just the notes on the page, but the psychology of performance, precise stylistic interpretation, and how to execute under pressure so you walk into your audition fully prepared.

You don't need a complex studio setup to get started. All you need is a reliable broadband internet connection, a computer or tablet with a webcam, and your instrument. While a USB microphone (like a Blue Yeti or Shure MV5) is highly recommended to accurately capture your brass tone, it isn't strictly required for your first lesson. I will guide you through optimizing your Zoom audio settings before we begin.

My teaching philosophy revolves around efficiency and ease. We will isolate and simplify the mechanics of the trumpet to a point where we can ensure you aren't fighting the horn. By establishing a rock-solid daily routine, we free up your mental energy to be fully present and focus on musicality, phrasing, and performance.
